\nAll the doorways here are short. I barely clear them. The indigenous Zapotec and Mixtec people in Oaxaca are very tiny people. It’s not unusual to see grown adults easily under 5 feet tall.<\/p>\n

\nDone with museum, now looking for a lunch spot. It’s nice to have cell service. What’s even better is that my Verizon plan covers Mexico as domestic plan so I don’t even need to pay $10 daily to get roaming service. Traveling is just so much easier with smart phone maps and data. Kids now will never understand what it’s like to travel with a paper map and asking for directions nonstop.<\/p>\n

\nThe air has been so dry here in our hotel room that we’ve had to wet a towel and make our own in room humidifier. Don’t knock it if it works.<\/p>\n

\nAfter our afternoon nap, RL went out for a stroll around some pottery stores while I blogged in the room.<\/p>\n

\nThen it’s time to head out to dinner. It looks like it may rain tonight? Maybe?<\/p>\n

\nThey’ve got some giant ants here in Oaxaca.<\/p>\n

\nOur hotel is close by Templo Santo Domingo, so we use it as a landmark to get around the area.<\/p>\n

\nDinner spot. Was a little tricky to find the entrance as the actual entrance is in the middle of the city block.<\/p>\n

\nYou can see the entrance at the yellow doorway, past this jewelry store.<\/p>\n

\nThis is actually a Michelin Star restaurant but I think we’re here during slow season and its mid-week so we were able to get a set without having to make a reservation.<\/p>\n

\nWoah. Open sky dining. Hope it doesn’t rain.<\/p>\n

\nI wanted to try the Oaxacan bugs, but RL didn’t want to share with me so I chickened out.<\/p>\n

\nBeautiful restaurant. They do have a roof that can be semi closed if it does rain I guess.<\/p>\n

\nCarrots under those leathery dried fruits or something else. This was very good.<\/p>\n

\nTlayuda, kinda like a tostada, but on a thin tortilla. This one is shaped more like a quesadilla, but they are usually open faced.<\/p>\n

\nRL had beef tongue and said it was phenomenal.<\/p>\n

\nView of the restaurant from the second floor landing outside the restroom. Very unique setting for sure.<\/p>\n

\nThey had a guava cheesecake on the menu, I had to give it a try. Superb.<\/p>\n

\nRL and I both love how everywhere we go here the use of texture with the stones is played on heavily with their architecture. These cement blocks are a great example of this.<\/p>\n

\nAnd since it’s our wedding anniversary trip, they gave us another free dessert.<\/p>\n

\nIce cream with a tortilla that you crack into little pieces and eat it together. Yum. This has been a very delicious meal.<\/p>\n

\nHeading back to hotel room after dinner. Why are all these kids out around in the evening?<\/p>\n

\nBack in our room, we were going to use our outdoor tub, then disaster struck. We broke one of the glass cups in our room.<\/p>\n

\nOur very nice hotel staff to the rescue. This being only a 4 room hotel, it’s just one single staff member who is overnight here.<\/p>\n

\nGlass incident cleaned up, we couldn’t figure out how to get hot water. The faucet ended up having hot and cold switched.<\/p>\n

\nFinally. It’s like a hot tub. This is nice.<\/p>\n
