Barcelona Day 3 Part 2

Continued from Barcelona Day 3 Part 1.

This restaurant French inspiration. Speaking of French, there are a lot of French tourists here in Barcelona right now.

Yes. Also, GREENS! I think these are the first we’ve been served on this trip.

Yes!!

Yes!!!

Probably the best of the bunch, slow cooked pork cheeks.

RL and her frou frou drink.

No nap, but coffee will help.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been in a toilet this tiny.

A randomly passer by lady saw me take a photo of this door and then offered to take a photo of us. That’s nice of her.

Wait…what! What do we have here, it’s the same figurine as the one we saw at the restaurant the other night when we got our check.

The caganer store is situated right across from this church.

Apparently it’s a Catalan nativity figure and they have it for celebrities and whatnot.

Lol, so awesome that this is in people’s nativity set. We got one for our nativity set too, it was too good to pass up.

Barcelona is a pretty city.

Get it Snow White.

And now, time for our second ticketed event for the day, Picasso Museum.

That man drew nonstop.

I wanna say he painted this when he was 14!!!

And I think he also painted this when he was in his early teens. I believe this is a painting of his sister and their father.

Same with this one, painted in his teens I believe. It’s just insane that he mastered in his teens what took others a whole lifetime.

RL approves.

I really liked this one.

In his older age, he painted many variations of this same scene.

The museum is made from combining several beautiful homes together.

Man was a genius, really. He could have mastered any painting style with ease, so it was all about just breaking all the rules and pushing boundaries for him.

You can bet that i bought some of those lewd postcards.

Oh look, the painting I tried to take a photo of in Madrid and then got yelled at without cause.

Pretty awesome, now it all makes sense.

Cool lighting.

Roman walls.

Gifts for parents, then a quick nap before a dinner and drinks.

Time to go in search of food. My right achilles tendon has started hurting earlier today. I’m now limping just a little bit as I walk around, so trying to minimize all the walking. Being old and being out of walking shape sucks.

Passed by our favorite 200 year old bar on the way to dinner.

Yes, except no. They had no spot except for people with reservations.

Rambla del Raval.

Since we got turned away from fancy tapas restaurant, we went right across the square and into the opposite. Really cheap doner kebabs.

And you know what, we will have amazing food here for 1/10 of the price.

Ohhhhh yes!! I’ve missed you so much European doner kebabs. They just don’t cook them like this in the US. Soooooo good.

Back to our favorite bar on this trip. This bar is so fucking awesome.

Absinthe, of course.

Our happy spot. Pretty cool that both of us love this place. Would suck if one of us loved it and the other hated it.

Like much of Europe, a lot of people smoke. We also saw a lot of people rolling their own cigarettes.

Our bartender, drinking on the job, no big deal. RL talked the bartenders for awhile and this particular guy has been working here for 15 years.

I wonder how long these bottles have been here. 30 years? Longer?

Right above the toilet in the men’s room.

As we left for the night, we were chatting with the bartenders. Forgot how, but somehow we came across the conversation regarding the digestif that we see around here in Spain. Apparently this is one of those, and he even poured us a shot on the house just for us to try. This is such a cool bar. The bartenders here have all been incredibly nice.

Prior to coming to Spain, we were chatting with our neighbors and one couple mentioned that they missed being in Spain because they smoked everywhere. And ever since that moment, I’ve been thinking about cigarettes in Spain.

Found out that in Barcelona, they don’t sell cigarettes in convenience stores. But instead, they are sold at either vending machines in restaurants or in these tobacco shops that we’ve seen around. Well, the tobacco shops are closed for the night, so we went around asking if there was a restaurant that had a vending machine. We found one not too far from our hotel.

Magical.

Don’t worry, I had half of one. It tasted terrible, but felt just right at the moment.

To be continued at Barcelona Day 4 Part 1.
